![]() PlanetWeb 2.0 is the latest version of the Dreamcast's internet browser for the US, distributed on the latest Official Dreamcast Magazine for free to US Dreamcast users. Is the browser any better than previous versions? Yes, quite so, but in the end, it still just as is crap surfing the net on your TV. First let me give a big thanks to the people at Planet Web for all the improvements they've made, but console surfing will not get better any time soon. So what is the good stuff with the new browser? Better looking and easier going interface. Its easier to control with a controller but its no fun compared to the keyboard. Next up now you can get MP3's on your DC. It is pretty cool but falls way short of what I was expecting. Also added in this version was "full" flash support. Or so they say. (explained below) Now it is time for me to dis on everything else. First off MP3 playback is good but it "locks" up your browser so you have to wait say 20-30 minutes to get your MP3 before you can continue surfing. Pure crap! Then you can't listen to the MP3 and surf after it finished downloading. As for the full Flash support can some one tell me why DreamArena.com looks like crap on my DC. I thought the site was made for DC. Overall you really need this version to get the best out of the web on your Dreamcast. While most of the new features are in the primitive stages, they're still cool and the pages load a bit faster. It's worth the $8 you'll spend on the ODM that it comes with. |
